May is National Small Business Month

A Message from Our Executive Director

May is National Small Business Month—and it’s one of our favorite times of the year at LEDC because it reminds us why we do this work.

Small businesses are the heart of our communities; from tamales made by hand before sunrise, the hair salon where neighbors catch up or the family store passed down through generations. Behind each business is a dream, a family and a lasting community impact.

This month, we’re here to celebrate the small business spirit.

Here are a few simple ways you can support small businesses in May and all year long:

Shop local first. Before going to a big retailer, check if a local small business carries what you need.

Leave a review. An online five-star review can make a real difference for a small business.

Share on social media. Tag your favorite local spots and tell your network why you love them.

Refer a friend. Word of mouth is still the most powerful marketing tool a small business has.

Attend community markets and events. Your presence and your purchases matter.

Speaking of community markets, we are excited to share that construction at Plaza del Sol is nearing completion this May! This new community marketplace will celebrate culture, food and connection, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Food Hall. We’re now recruiting businesses for our Food Hall, which features two restaurants and three vendor stands. If you or someone you know is a passionate food entrepreneur—or dreams of being one—we’d love to hear from you! Contact us at www.PlazaDelSolMN.org to learn more.

Commissary Kitchen. Already cooking? Our 24/7 commercial kitchen can make your job easier. You can schedule kitchen time, whether you need a few hours to prep for a catering job or regular shifts to build your production.

Plaza del Sol is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and a destination for the community. It’s proof that when we invest in small businesses, remarkable things happen. We’d love for you to be part of it.

Visit when we open. Shop from our vendors. Share the word. Apply for a business spot or plant your visit at www.PlazaDelSolMN.org.

With gratitude,

Alma Flores, Executive Director
