We’re planting seeds/semillas! Seeds of respect, pride, and financial freedom for future generations of farmers in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Our goal is to help emerging farmers—especially those historically excluded from owning farm land—gain the tools, resources, and capital they need to be a successful famer in MN and WI.

Regenerative agriculture is a holistic farming approach that:

LEDC offers a one-stop agricultural business program to support farmers at every stage of their journey. We work one-on-one with each of our clients. Here’s what we provide:
We work one-on-one with farmers to help them see farming as a business. Our farm business consultants work to guide our clients through the process of obtaining licenses and permits needed to start a business in Minnesota. They receive advice about how to implement a basic bookkeeping system, a marketing plan, and business registration. We offer a wide range of services including business planning, sales projections, and cash flow analysis.
Our farm loan officers will advise and help individual farmers prepare a loan package to obtain business financing and start-up loans. We work with our own loan fund and leverage funds from other financial institutions, including the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s Rural Finance Authority, USDA’s Farm Service Agency, Compeer Financial, partnering with CDFIs, and other private banks.
At LEDC, we are committed to finding creative and innovative ways to help farmers finance conservation and regenerative practices. We actively collaborate with funders to design flexible funding solutions that empower farmers to achieve meaningful conservation goals and lead the transition to more sustainable agriculture.
We can help clients obtain start-up capital, operating loans, and have helped farmers purchase their own land. For more information, please visit our Lending page.
As part of our technical assistance, we advise entrepreneurs on how to write and apply for direct grant funding for their operations. These grants often help fund equipment purchases and infrastructure projects. We often use these grants to leverage other sources of funding, to create integrated capital stacks to help farmers achieve larger projects.
LEDC recognizes that land access is one of the biggest barriers for emerging farmers. Securing financial capital to purchase farmland is just one part of the journey. That’s why we’re building a comprehensive support system to help farmers navigate the full land acquisition process—from identifying available properties and understanding local zoning regulations to exploring creative pathways for land ownership and access. We collaborate closely with key partners in the land access space to deepen our understanding of available options and better serve our clients. We’ve already helped farmers successfully purchase land, and we remain committed to expanding that success across our communities.
We recognize that access to strong, reliable markets is essential to farm success. We work to connect farmers with local buyers and market opportunities for their produce and agricultural products, helping them build sustainable and profitable operations. If our team cannot help you, we have a strong network of service providers that we can connect with you.
Our work is rooted in collaboration. We’ve built strong partnerships with government agencies like the USDA, Farm Service Agency, and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, and with nonprofit allies including The Land Stewardship Project, The Good Acre, Midwest Farmers of Color Collective, and Big River Farms. We also bridge connections between farmers and the University of Minnesota Extension to expand access to education and support.
To strengthen financial pathways, we work closely with institutions such as Compeer Financial, Hmong American Partnership, African Economic Development Solutions, and the MDA’s Rural Finance Authority. Through these partnerships—and initiatives like the Midwest Farmers of Color Collective’s Radical Resource and Land Fund—we help farmers build capital stacks that support long-term growth and resilience.

We are planting the seeds of respect, pride, and financial freedom for future generations of emerging farmers working across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. We support our community to find meaningful pathways to advance regenerative practices and sustainable economic resilience.
Regenerative agriculture is a living system that is rooted in Indigenous knowledge and traditional farming wisdom and strengthened by modern science and technology. We define it as a holistic approach that improves outcomes for people, crops, animals, soil, and ecosystems. As this movement grows, our mission is to uplift emerging farmers, especially those historically excluded, by connecting them with the resources and capital they need to lead the shift toward ecological practices that begin to restore communities and the planet from the damage caused by industrial agriculture.
LEDC offers a comprehensive, one-stop regenerative agricultural business program designed to support emerging farmers across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Over the past decade, we’ve developed innovative ways to help farmers start, grow, and sustain their operations through technical assistance, business development, and access to capital and markets. We meet farmers where they are in their regenerative agriculture journey, providing the tools and support to move them forward.
Farmers from marginalized communities face systemic barriers to capital and support. We work to ensure they have equitable access, particularly within the regenerative agriculture funding landscape.
Many farmers lack the land and capital needed to fully implement regenerative practices. We identify producers ready to scale and support them with creative solutions that address climate change and conservation goals.
Building generational wealth starts with access to real assets. We help emerging farmers secure land and infrastructure to create lasting economic impact within their communities.
This video shows the agriculture services that the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) offers in Minnesota.
We could not do this vital work to move Regenerative Agricultural forward in our community without the help of our partners and our funders.
