Honoring Legacies and Funding Futures

Message from Alma Flores, LEDC Executive Director

It may only be October, but it’s not too early to start talking about Give to the Max, and the students whose futures your generosity can help shape.

As Día de los Muertos approaches, many in our community will honor the loved ones who came before us and reflect on the values, traditions and hopes they passed down. The observance reminds us that legacy is not only what we remember; it is also what we help make possible for the next generation.

This November, LEDC invites our community to Give to the Max to fund students’ futures. Our campaign will raise money for the LEDC Latino Scholarship Fund, with early giving starting November 1.

Every $5,000 raised will create a scholarship for a deserving Latino student, and every gift brings another student closer to achieving their educational goals and possibly their entrepreneurial goals.

In 2026, 53 students applied to the scholarship fund and 14 received scholarships. These scholarships reduce financial barriers, allow students to focus more fully on their education and prepare them to bring their talents to their careers and communities.

The students’ own words show what this support makes possible:

“… I am not pursuing this dream alone. Your generosity is helping me become the educator I aspire to be, and I hope that one day I can give back by making a positive difference in the lives of children and their families.” – Frida Tellez Mercado

“This scholarship will help me focus on my education and … continue being a voice for others while opening doors for future Latino students and families.” – Esteban Barrios

We’ll share more in November about how you can support our campaign. If you are interested in donating now, please contact me anytime at alma@ledcmn.org.

The more we raise, the more scholarships we can provide. By investing in Latino students today, we honor the dreams of those who came before us and help build a stronger future for Minnesota’s businesses and communities.

With gratitude,

Alma Flores, Executive Director, LEDC
