A Message from Alma Flores, LEDC Executive Director
National Hispanic Heritage Month, observed Sept. 15-Oct. 15, is an opportunity to celebrate la cultura and contributions of Latino communities. At LEDC, it also reminds us why equitable access to capital, knowledge and opportunity matters throughout the year.
Did you know that 99% of Latino-owned businesses are small businesses? Or that according to McKinsey & Co., in 2023, Latinos and immigrants created 36% of new businesses in the U.S.?
Our newly released 2025 Annual Report reflects the strength of our commitment to Latino and immigrant small business owners and entrepreneurs. Last year, we closed 45 loans totaling more than $3.5 million, helping create 167 jobs and retain 267 jobs. We also expanded our business training, regenerative agriculture support and scholarship opportunities while strengthening our financial position and lending capacity. These results represent real investments in Latino businesses across Minnesota.
That momentum continues through initiatives such as the Main Street Economic Revitalization program. This summer, LEDC funded six businesses through our partnership with the State of Minnesota to administer over $1.2 million in Main Street revitalization funds. These investments in properties along commercial corridors in St. Paul help entrepreneurs build stronger businesses while contributing to welcoming neighborhoods.
As Minnesota’s only Latino-focused Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), we are energized by the opportunities ahead. I invite you to read our annual report and learn more about the entrepreneurs, partners and funders making this work possible.
With gratitude,
Alma Flores, Executive Director, LEDC
